The main company for towage activities is Augustea Imprese Marittime e di Salvataggi Spa (in short Augustea Spa).

Since the incorporation in 1955, the Company carried out towing operations in the port of Augusta (Sicily), thereafter extending its activities to the ports of Catania, Syracuse and Pozzallo, all located in the Eastern coast of Sicily (Italy), where it operates a public service through long-term public contracts. Such licences grant the Company the exclusive management of all towing activities within these harbours and are renewable at maturity upon application.

In Augusta and Syracuse the business is mainly involved with the petrochemical industry, while in Catania and Pozzallo it is concerned with passenger ferry activity.

Augustea Spa holds a 100% interest in Augustea Terminal Srl, a terminal operator which provides towing services directly or through Augustea Grancolombia Sas, a subsidiary operating since 2007 in Colombia with two tugs (owned by the sister company Kiana Unipessoal Lda), for a total aggregate capacity of 6k KW) in Santa Marta, Puerto Produco, Puerto Drummond and Rio Cordoba.

Augustea Spa holds a 50% stake in Augustea Rigenoil Srl, a company incorporated in 2011 with the purpose of the collection, transport, treatment, conferment and/or disposal of shipping waste products and residual loads pursuant to Legislative Decree 182/2003, the commercialisation of the recovered products, the management of harbour plants for the collection and disposal of waste, as well as any other maritime and harbour service. These services are provided also through the subsidiaries Deslopping Augusta Scarl (62%) and STS Company Services Srl (33.34%).

Augustea Holding Spa, together with two other leading Italian harbour operators, recently set up Italtugs Srl, to further develop the business and benefit the tugs' management from scale economies.

Augustea Spa is a member of Assorimorchiatori and of the European Tugowners Association.

Currently the fleet consists of 17 tugs, for a total aggregate power capacity of 41k KW, and 1 tug and 2 oil barges involved in Augustea Rigenoil activities.
